OUR HISTORY

Ambr by Cup is an exciting and dynamic approach to fine tea blends, created by the team that brought you Cup Tea Rooms.

In 2010, Cup Tea Rooms first opened it's doors in Glasgow. Tea and cake was at the heart of this business and we wanted to offer our customers something a little different. Working with a master tea blender, we created our own, signature collection of hand blended, loose leaf tea. Over the years we have perfected and adapted our flavours and blends with feedback from our customers, and we are always listening for new ideas and suggestions to develop and improve our offering.

For years now, Cup have been serving these superb teas to our customers in our Glasgow and Edinburgh tea rooms, and we are now delighted to offer the same premium quality blends for you to enjoy in the comfort of your own home.

HAND BLENDED

We are proud to say that Ambr teas are all hand blended in small batches. There are many benefits to our artisanal process of making tea. We do not use any machines in the process of blending the ingredients, this prevents bruising of the leaves. Our teas have been expertly blended by our master tea blender Alex Probyn.  Alex has many years of experience of blending teas having worked for some of the largest tea companies in the world.

WHY AMBR?

Very little is known about the true origins of tea. However, one legend has endured. It is believed that Shen Nung, the emperor of China more than 5000 years ago, was known as a skilled artist and scientist required everyone to boil all drinking water in order to improve sanitation across China. During a visit to a rural area of China, he stopped with his court to rest. While resting and enjoying his water, a gust of wind blew leaves from a nearby plant into the water, turning the liquid an amber colour. An inquisitive scientist, Shen Nung decided to experiment with the water and drank the infusion. He found the drink to be refreshing, and tea was born.
